Ethiopia looks likely to sign a deal with ZTE and Huawei in the next few weeks, on a mobile infrastructure expansion project.

Ethiopian Communication and Information Technology Minister Debretsion Gebremichael said the country was now poised to begin a network expansion aimed at doubling the country’s mobile subscriber numbers.

Late last year, Ethiopia said it would award a telecoms contract, expected to be worth around USD1.3 billion, to Huawei and ZTE, who were bidding jointly on the contract.
