Econet launches Dial a Doc
Econet Wireless has launched a new service that will allow subscribers to access health advice 24/7 via the mobile phone. The Dial-A-Doc service under EcoHealth will be administered via the company’s call centre and is expected to help bridge the widening gap of access to affordable health care. “We want to transform the health sector through innovation,” said Mr Douglas Mboweni, Econet chief executive.
He added that Econet would continue to invest in network infrastructure to broaden its capacity for more such technologies that bring positive transformation to people.
Dr Precious Lunga, head of Econet Health, said in Zimbabwe currently, a doctor on average serves 15 000 people. Dial-A-Doc would help reduce this ratio, and also cut the distance between patients and healthcare workers.
Chief of epidemiology and disease control in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Portia Manangazira, commended Econet’s efforts to transform the health service sector by providing e-health solutions. She said government was working towards the full implementation of e-health services in collaboration with partners such as Econet.
