New healthcare clinics across Nigeria and Angola have been given a lifeline by Telecom26, which was recently chosen by its long time partner SystemOne, to provide connectivity to its digital health programmes.

The two companies are already working together in Ghana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, where SystemOne has tested more than 1.3 million blood samples for TB, HIV and COVID, using the Telecom26 network.

These tests provide speedy diagnosis enabling patients to start treatment earlier which improves outcomes.  In addition the tests pave the way for measures to be taken to prevent the uncontrolled transmission of the deadly infectious diseases.

E-health programmes worldwide face serious challenges such as unreliable bandwidth and patchy connectivity. The problem seems to be worse in Africa, where telecommunications infrastructure in many countries are either obsolete or not working properly due to lack of investment.
