Communications & Digitization Minister excited about Twitter’s move to build new regional HQ, Ghana
Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digitization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has welcome Twitter’s decision to site its new Africa headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
Commenting on her official Twitter page, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful who was full of excitement tweeted “Twitter chooses Ghana as their regional hub for Africa!! Thumbs up for Digital Ghana!
The Communications and Digitization minister believes that such a move on the part of the international tech giant is great news for Ghana’s local and vibrant tech community. She then ended her tweet with “We can’t wait to welcome others”.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful then expressed gratitude to the president of the Republic of Ghana for such a feat.
US-based social media giant, Twitter Inc. officially announced on Monday its decision to open its first African office in Ghana, as it seeks to make inroads in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
According to the tech giant, Ghana was based on its strong democratic credential including free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.
“Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa,” it added.
