Ghana’s Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has paid a glowing tribute to the out-going Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Zoleka Cuba.

Speaking during the official launch of Vodafone Ghana’s latest 4G LTE service in Accra on Tuesday, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful described the out-going CEO as a tower of strength and a leader in the telecommunications industry – a leading voice in new trends and digitalisation.

“It is sad to see Yolanda go; she has been a tower of strength and a leader in the telecommunications industry – a leading voice in new trends and digitalisation. However, I am encouraged by the good prospects that Patricia will bring to the company and the industry. I wish Yolanda great success in her subsequent endeavours,” she said.

In her emotionally charged remarks which also happens to her last public engagement as Vodafone Ghana CEO, Ms. Cuba acknowledged the deployment of 4G service in Ghana as one of Vodafone’s biggest investments since it began operations in the country.

“It also represents one of the last achievements that I shall take with me back to South Africa when I make my exit at the end of this month,” she stated.

She further praised employees of Vodafone Ghana for their massive support and expressed her confidence in her successor, Patricia Obo-Nai.

“It has been an exciting experience for me. I have nothing but the greatest of admiration for this country, its people, my team and every employee across Vodafone Ghana. My assignment here has taught me perseverance, determination, grit, aggression and faith. I am proud of what we have achieved together and I am even more confident about the strides that will be achieved by my successor - Patricia Obo-Nai,” noted.

Yolanda Cuba, who has been the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana since March 2016, will be moving to South Africa in April this year to head Vodacom Group as its new CEO.

With her involvement in pulling off a successful launch of Vodafone Ghana’s latest 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) service in the country, Ms. Cuba would go down in history as one of Vodafone Ghana’s dynamic and result oriented CEOs who during her tenure concluded the acquisition of 4G spectrum, the restructuring of the company’s balance sheet and drove enhanced commercial performance in the market.

She  also help maintained Vodafone’s network superiority and introduced a number of innovative products including the launch of the first ever Fibre services To The Home (FTTH) in Ghana, “Ekikimi”, 10x and initiatives like Express WiFi with Facebook to improve connectivity for all.

Her passion for inclusiveness and a purpose-led organisation under the banner of ‘igniting Ghana’s digital revolution’ gained wide recognition as evidenced by the numerous awards to the business during her tenure.
