CastIron to host first B2B ICT conference
By John Churu, Gaborone, Botswana
CastIron, a Gaborone-based ICT oriented company, will host the first business to business information communication technology (ICT) conference soon. In an interview with Biztechafrica, the company’s Public Relations and Communications Officer, Loago Onthusitse, said the fair, which will take a regional outlook, will be the first of its kind in the country.
“We are targeting all those that use ICT in every respect. We have a number of participants from as far afield as South Africa. We will display machinery that does 3D printing. We are also looking for designers and others that show how to do 2D and 3D as well as some animation."
She adds that the meeting will also accommodate those that specialise in telemedicine, computer aided design, and ICT in education. “The highlight of the day will be demonstrations in 3D printing. Some companies from SA have indicated that they would want to showcase their expertise." She cited companies like Raspberry Pi, Printing Systems and some universities from South Africa as well.
According to Onthusitse, the event will be free for all participants and the larger Botswana community. Local institutions like the Oodi College and The University of Botswana’s Faculty of Design will also be in attendance. “We are expecting students and teachers from senior schools, tertiary institutions and some government departments. We are also looking forward to getting private companies and some start-ups in ICT to be represented as well. Clinics and private hospitals are welcome to demostrate their telemedicine readiness,” explained Onthusitse.
She noted that the platform for such a conference has been made possible by the availability of an enabling environment that has been largely created by the government and other organisations that have taken ICT to another level in the country. However, she noted that the concept of 3D printing has not sunk well with the local technology fraternity.”This event is powered by Auto Desk, Rasberry PI, 3D Printing Systems, Telemedicine Africa, TurboCAD, ICL, Dimension Data, Modern Solutions, Cabling For Africa, BOCRA, Outsource IT, BOFINET, BITRI, and University Of Botswana. Most partners to this event will have stalls where they exhibit their products and services.”
