Cameroon's first animated film arrives on Yabadoo

It's the story of an orphan girl who broke a spoon. Her name is Minga and her adventure is narrated in an animated film; Cameroon's first ever, and now available on Yabadoo, MTN Cameroon's video-on-demand platform.

Inspired by the Cameroonian tale "The Broken Spoon", published in 1977, "Minga and the Broken Spoon " is the title of this work, the adventures of which are very colourful and punctuated by local musical sounds including a “very Cameroonian” charming prince. "This film has everything to please the youths," says its director, Claye Edou.

And not just for children. Released in 2017, this film has won over several Juries around the world. "Minga and the Broken Spoon" has already received several awards on the national and international scene, including Best International Film at the Kingston Festival in Jamaica, Best Feature Film at the Abidjan Animation Film Festival in Côte d'Ivoire and Special Jury Rating at the Écrans Noirs Festival in Cameroon in 2018.

The availability of "Minga and the Broken Spoon" on the Yabadoo platform since 1 October 2019 is the result of a close collaboration between the Cameroon Films Industry, specialized in the distribution of Cameroonian movies and MTN Cameroon. Claye Edou was particularly pleased with this launch which now allows the public to watch his masterpiece on their smartphones wherever they are in the country.

"It’s an immense joy for me to be able to share my production with so many film lovers thanks to the Yabadoo application, thus sharing this fabulous story punctuated by local music and featuring endearing characters who share local values," Claye Edou said in delight.

"With Yabadoo, which we launched in September 2018, MTN Cameroon's mission is to promote local cinema by providing a platform for Cameroonian producers to distribute and monetize their works on the national territory with one click," commented Hendrik Kasteel, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon.

« Minga and the Broken Spoon » joins a catalogue of more than 90 Cameroonian films available on Yabadoo. The platform is about to host Cameroonian short films in the near future.
