BTC Foundation equips school with ICTs

The Botswana Telecommunication Corporation Limited Foundation continues with its CSR initiatives with a donation to Maiphitlhwane Primary School in Pitsane of two desktop computers, a printer and cartridges worth twenty-two thousand seven hundred and forty-five thebe only (P22, 745.00).  

Handing over the donation, the BTC General Manager Information Systems, Nelson Disang, said that as part of sustainability agenda, BTC through its Foundation gives back to communities that it operates in. 

The donation was made to honour a pledge made during the school’s prize giving ceremony which was held under the theme ‘Excellence Awards: the key to holistic development of the 21st learner’. In relation to the theme, Disang stated that BTC is well placed to deliver digitisation and has partnered with the government of Botswana to deliver the fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), connecting schools and communities. 

He urged the recipients to take care of the equipment and use it to improve their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results; encouraging learners to work hard and excel. Receiving the donation, the school Headmaster, Gladys Gwakuda stated that the school’s current PSLE results shows a slight improvement compared to the previous year. 

She stated that they will however not rest on their laurels as they have not yet reached their target. The ICT equipment, she said, will make it easier to further improve performance. The Regional Principal Education Officer, Topo Mmolawa, thanked the BTC Foundation and stated that the donation would enable the region to improve performance. 

Mmolawa further called on other companies to follow suit and assist the Ministry of Education deliver quality education to learners through programmes such as Adopt-a-school.
