By Issa Sikiti da Silva
Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, will host an exciting ICT forum on 27 February 2015 titled Les Universités du Numérique 2.0, (the Universities of Digital 2.0), an event aimed at highlighting the critical importance of ICTs in tertiary education and entrepreneurship.
The forum will take place at the Central Library of the Marien Ngouabi University (UMNG).
It is a common sight in Central Africa to come across university graduates who lack basic computer skills, let alone a general understanding of ICTs.
Therefore, the organisers said the forum aims at educating students and the public on ICT issues in Congo Brazzaville.
The event is themed ‘Youth and Digital Entrepreneurship’, and will be held in partnership with the Department of Communication Sciences and Techniques (STC) of UMNG.
The government of Congo Brazzaville has spent millions of dollars in the past decade to boost the ICT sector, yet most of its schools and tertiary institutions lack basic ICT equipment.
Universities of Digital 2.0 is also a platform of discussion and exchange of ideas between researchers, ICT experts, students and the general public, including journalists, beginners, the organisers explained.
Topics expected to be discussed include impact of ICT on entrepreneurship in the creative industries in Congo: the case of musical production, cloud computing and ICT training: a pillar of digital entrepreneurship.
