Angola expands prepaid meter scheme

The Angolan authorities are expanding the country’s prepaid electricity meter campaign in a bid to curb electricity waste.

The Director of the National Electricity Company (ENE) in Huambo province, Gilberto Pessoa, said that since September last year, 11 000 prepaid meters had been installed in homes in Huambo and Caála.

He said the programme would be expanded in the two cities, to avoid wasteful consumption of electrical power.and support the rational use of this asset.

"We will continue to install these devices in the interests of the company's power distribution and consumers themselves," he said.
