Airtel reports it has passed the 50 million subscriber milestone after 17 months in Africa.

Airtel said it had invested over USD1 billion into its African operations in 16 countries.

Marking its 50 millionth subscriber milestone this week, Airtel said it had added 14 million new mobile customers since acquiring the African operations from Zain.

 “This milestone demonstrates our continued dedication and commitment to Africa,” said Manoj Kohli, CEO (International) and Joint Managing Director, Bharti airtel Limited.

“We have made significant investments in our operations and brought in our ecosystem of world-class IT, networks and customer care partners to Africa and this achievement has been possible through their support and commitment.

Airtel said it would continue bring to Africa world-class and innovative voice and data services to Africa.

The organization said it had strategically partnered with companies such as IBM, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens, Huawei, Spanco, Tech Mahindra and Samsung. The collaborations will sustainably introduce the latest technology and offer competitive services, whilst maintaining a focus on core areas within the business.
