Africa awaits ACE switch-on
The ACE consortium is on track to make the new ACE undersea cable operational before the end of the year.
The African Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine cable is a 17,000km fibre optic cable linking 23 countries – 20 of them in Africa.
It will add capacity to numerous countries, but will also be the first international cable to land in Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe and Sierra Leone.
Yvess Rugerri Director, Network Strategy and Submarine Systems for ACE consortium members France Telecom, has stated that testing is underway and a ceremony is scheduled to be held in The Gambia on 15 December to mark the launch.
Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema says the cable, will herald a new era of communications in his country.
