1,089 patients to be released from hospital by the Leopards, Airtel

Bharti Airtel will be settling hospital bills for hundreds of patients in Congo, through a partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo national team – ‘The Leopards’.

This initiative is aimed at paying bills of 1,089 people from 11 reference hospitals within 11 provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for the 9 goals scored. For every goal scored by the DRC team in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final stage, Airtel are paying 121 hospital bills. In its first phase, Airtel paid 484 hospital bills for the four goals scored against Congo Brazzaville. 

After a great performance from the Congolese national football team, the ‘Leopards’, Airtel DRC extended its appreciation to the heroes of the Democratic Republic of Congo for their qualification to the semifinals of the biggest football event in Africa.

Making the announcement, Mr. Alain Kahasha, the Managing Director of Airtel DRC congratulated the ‘The Leopards’ for placing DRC on the football map.

“Airtel DRC is committed to support its people through a platform we call, ‘Congo my country, Airtel my network'. The initiative is aimed at giving comfort and peace of mind to many Congolese people burdened by various social issues and start celebrating our strengths.” Alain said.

In partnership with the Ministry of Sports, Airtel DRC is in the forefront of youth development through the Airtel Rising Stars, an initiative geared at nurturing young football talent for boys and girls under 17.
