Warid wins tax appeal

By BiztechAfrica - July 5, 2012, 2:28 p.m.Warid Telecom has won its appeal against penalties imposed by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
URA was seeking UGX 3.4 billion in taxes and penalties from Warid Telecom, in a dispute over taxes on imported goods and services.
The Judge in the Commercial Division of the High Court in Kampala, Judge Christopher Madrama, ruled that a previous Tax Appeals Tribunal, which had ruled in favour of URA, had not properly evaluated the evidence before it, and had come to the wrong conclusion.
