Uganda seeks phone tapping funds
GOVERNMENT
By BiztechAfrica - July 16, 2012, 8:34 a.m.Uganda is seeking budget for equipment to allow it to implement its communications Interception and Monitoring Act.
The Act, passed in 2010, allows for phone tapping for security purposes. However, it was not fully implemented – apparently due to limited, legacy equipment available for interception and monitoring.
The government is now reported to be seeking budget for Shs 205bn to purchase the necessary equipment.
