Uganda plans new network

The Ugandan Government plans to start construction on a new fibre optic network connecting to undersea cables later this year.
The Director for Technical Services at National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U), Peter Kahiigi, told a workshop in Kampala that the alternative network would safeguard against dependence on the country’s current main link – a cable through Kenya.
Kahiigi said the new network would run through Mutukula to Tanzania. He said the project would be funded by the government and other financiers, with construction set to begin in November.
