Uganda NDP: ICT a top priority
GOVERNMENT
By BiztechAfrica - March 31, 2012, 9:29 a.m.The Government of Uganda has placed science and technology among the four priorities of the National Development Plan (NDP) for the period 2010/11-2014/15.
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development said Uganda’s development prospects were intricately linked with the pace of generation, adoption and utilisation of science and technology in the development process.
“This presents both an opportunity and challenge to scientists, policy makers and development planners to transform scientific knowledge into development programs for the realization of Uganda’s development aspirations,” the Department said.
“Key among the national aspirations is the uplifting of the population from absolute poverty through provision of basic human needs, achievement of the millennium development goals, transformation of the economy from an agrarian to an industrial and knowledge economy, and enhancing Uganda’s participation in global trade and development processes.”
