UCC highlights standards for DTTV
Uganda’s UCC has drawn attention to the standards to be adopted for digital terrestrial TV broadcasting in the country.
Uganda, which has aimed to migrate to digital broadcasting by December this year, has selected Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T2) and MPEG 4 as the standards for digital terrestrial TV broadcasting.
This is in line with meeting of African stakeholders in Kampala in April, where DVB-T2 and MPEG 4 were settled on as the standards for DTTV.
The Uganda Communications Commission notes that pay TV services must adopt decoders compatible with these standards.
UCC said in a statement that it would continue to engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, including adoption of these new standards.
