Tigo mobile programme takes info to farmers

Tigo Tanzania has launched a pilot project to take agricultural information to small scale farmers via mobile.

The project, 'Tigo Kilimo’, will deliver real-time information on weather and farming tips via SMS.

Yaya Ndjore, project manager for Tigo Kilimo service at Tigo Tanzania, said poor transport and communications infrastructures make it difficult for farmers in developing countries to access vital information on combating pests, weather forecasts and better farming practices.

Farmers can access the service by dialing *148*14#
