Third operator set to enter Mali

By BiztechAfrica - Sept. 19, 2012, 6:17 p.m.After a process lasting over a year, Mali’s Council of Ministers has approved the conditions for a new mobile operator, Alpha Telecom Mali, to enter the market.
Alpha Telecom Mali is a consortium including Planor and Monaco Telecom. The consortium won the tender proposal with a bid of 84 million euros, over Viettel and Bharti Airtel.
The process of awarding the license began in June last year, and the license is expected to be handed over next month.
Alpha Telecom Mali will compete for market share against Sotelma and Orange Mali.
