Tanzanians believe that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can play a vital role in improving the economy of the country. Among other benefits, they say, is that ICTs make it easier for people to sell their goods and services to buyers in other countries.
According to a poll by the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, 92.5% of those polled believe that ICT can play a big part in improving the economy of Tanzania.
Only 5.7% of people polled did not feel ICT can play a big role in improving the economy of the country, while 1.9% said they were not sure if ICT could help to improve the economy.
Tanzania is in the process of establishing its national fibre optic backbone – a network about 7,000 km connecting to district headquarters, public and educational facilities. The network is intended to improve connectivity with Tanzania and East Africa.
