Surfline Ghana to expand nationwide
By Nana Appiah Acquaye, Accra, Ghana
Customers of Ghana’s first 4G LTE network service Surfline would not have to worry for an imminent upward adjustment of prices of data bundles in the near future following the recent decreasing of new data bundles by the operator. “New data bundles have already decreased in price so subscribers do not have to worry about an imminent price increase from Surfline,” the company says.
This comes as good news to most subscribers of Surfline at a time where businesses in the Ghana are going through challenging times with erratic power supply coupled with the high cost of petroleum products which automatically give rise to the increment of goods and services.
As part of efforts to cover all then ten regions of the Ghana and also to get all Ghanaians to enjoy the fastest connectivity experience of 4G LTE services, Surfline Communications has announced plans to expand their award-winning 4G LTE network in Ghana with Huawei Technologies.
In a statement available to Biztechafrica it noted that after a gruelling evaluation process, Huawei emerged as the winning vendor for expansion due in part to their success as a worldwide market leader on frequency division duplex (FDD). The expansion will cover major cities such as Takoradi, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Tamale and Ho, and include all key municipalities within the data-hungry country. Once completed Surfline will boast 700+ cell sites, making it one of the world’s largest independent LTE networks, an amazing feat for the country’s only telecommunications network that is wholly owned by Ghanaians.
“The expansion will be divided into phases and begin soon. According to the requirements of Surfline's Broadband Wireless Access license, they must cover 44 district capitals in all 10 regions of Ghana within 18 months of their commercial launch last August. However, Surfline aims to achieve this coverage prior to that deadline; just as they did for the launch deadline” it said.
The announcement follows Surfline’s extremely successful launch last August, which saw Surfline raise the bar on both new and existing operators through their commitment to bring international standards to Ghana by introducing sophisticated experiential stores, superior customer service and incomparable data speeds. Surfline has experienced tremendous growth in its customer base making them a force to be reckoned with within the competitive marketplace. In 2014, Surfline was nominated for “Breakthrough LTE Entrant” at AfricaCom in South Africa and won “Top Emerging Brand” at the Top Brands Awards in Ghana.
