Steps to salavage Egypt BPO
GOVERNMENT
By BiztechAfrica - March 2, 2011, 2:38 p.m.A new working group will be formed to try and salvage Egypt’ s BPO sector, which sustained serious damage during the recent uprising.
Business Process Outsourcing, only weeks ago a flourishing business sector in Egypt, may have suffered lasting damage during the recent unrest.
Egypt’ s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) conducted a hurried survey of the sector immediately after the unrest and determined that while no BPO employees had been harmed, the sector took a knock.
During the violence and subsequent curfew, BPO centres were unmanned and some foreign clients moved their business elsewhere.
ITIDA CEO Yasser El-Kady has announced that the new working group will try to solve the current crisis in the sector and lay the groundwork for emergency plans should similar disruptions occur again.
The working group will be led by (ITIDA), with members from the ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Telecom Egypt, and representatives of the companies.
ITIDA also plans to launch an international campaign to restore the image of the Egyptian ICT industry.
