Sabotage cuts MTN Nigerian connections

By BiztechAfrica - Sept. 19, 2012, 8:06 a.m.Saboteurs are reported to have damaged MTN infrastructure in Northern Nigeria, leaving millions unconnected.
MTN said multiple fibre optic lines had been damaged during attacks in the north of the country this week, disrupting ‘millions of lives’. Some subscribers in the south and east may also have been affected.
MTN said security concerns were hampering maintenance and repair work in the region, but that its engineers were working towards a resolution.
The telco said: “Indeed, we know how important your phones are to your daily lives, and we remain determined to resolve these issues. MTN wishes to apologise to its customers who may be experiencing difficulty with making or receiving calls on the MTN network. These disruptions are directly related to recent attacks on telecommunications infrastructure and the attendant difficulties with carrying out maintenance and repair work.”
