By BiztechAfrica - Oct. 11, 2012, 12:34 p.m.The Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) will mark World Standards Day this year with a ceremony officiated over by Prime Minister Dr Pierre Damien Habumuremyi. This year, the global event will be marked on 14 October, while Rwanda’s celebrations will take place on 16 October.
Each year, the members of the IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate World Standards Day, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of the thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards.
According to Dr. Mark Cyubahiro, the director general of RBS, a week of activities has been organized to support the day. “‘We have organised activities that will focus mainly on raising awareness of stakeholders on the benefits of standardization, conformity assessment activities (testing, inspection, and certification) and metrology,” he said.
He noted that international standards provide solutions in main sectors of agriculture, construction, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, distribution, transport, health care, ICT, food, Water, energy and services. They contribute to sustainable economic development by increasing efficiency, effectiveness and therefore conserving resources.
