Rwanda Census complete

Rwanda’s national census has ended successfully, says the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).
The two-week census is estimated to have covered between 95 and 99% of the population. The census, the first to be held since 2002, looked at housing, living conditions, population age, growth, health and education.
The exercise involved over 16,500 enumerators and cost over USD21.3 million, for a projected population of 11 million people. Work began on the project two years ago, with a mapping project using Global Positioning System (GPS) based data capturing technology.
Yussuf Murangwa, the Director General of NISR, said almost everyone in the country had been enumerated. From the 16-30 of September, NISR will conduct a post-enumeration survey to evaluate how the census was conducted. If it is found that there was a lower coverage than initially thought, a statistical adjustment will be done.
