Opera News celebrates 5m downloads in Q1 by giving free data to users in Kenya
Opera News has reached a new milestone of five million downloads in the African market during the first quarter of the year, becoming the number one news app in Africa and the fastest growing Opera product of the year. The company is celebrating this milestone with a free data reward campaign in partnership with Safaricom to show love and appreciation to all Opera News users in Kenya.
Opera News is now the number one news and video app in Africa, topping the download charts in all the key markets. Over the coming year, the way people consume news and videos will change completely. We are proud to lead this transformation with Opera News,” said Jørgen Arnesen, Global Head of Marketing and Distribution at Opera.
For a limited time, Opera News users in Kenya will be rewarded with free data bundle packages from Safaricom by simply inviting friends and family to download the news app.
The reward starts at 15 MB for downloading Opera News and increases to 35 MB each time a user invites a friend to install the news app. This means the more friends you get to download Opera News, the more free data you will earn. This data will be added to the current data package of each user, so they can spend it on their favorite apps or browsing the web. Users can send invitations to friends and family by using the unique link generated in the app. This link can be sent over via SMS or social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, among others.
“The reward system in Opera News is easy. The more friends and family that download Opera News from your invitation, the more data you will earn,” said Arnesen. “We are excited to partner up with Safaricom, as they are one of the biggest and most disruptive companies in Africa.”
Opera News is available for download in Google Play in sixteen languages.
