Nigeria ComTech gets N1b from N7.3tr budget

The Nigerian government has allocated N1billion to ComTech Ministry for the extension of the government service portal and deployment of additional National Spectrum Management System.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo-Udoma who announced this while giving a breakdown of the N7.3trillion 2017 budget, said the budget will put infrastructure provision at the centre to enhance liquidity in the system.

Mines and Steel Development will receive N1.0billion for the establishment of mega regulatory agency for the sector and N2.58 billion for detail mineral resources evaluation, equipping national geo-science laboratories and other projects,while Niger Delta ministry will receive N6.55 billion for dualization of East-West Road {Sections 1 to 5 covering Warri–Kiama– Ahaoda – Port Harcourt – Eket –Oron-Calabar} and N8 billion counterpart fund contribution for East-West road.

Social Intervention Programmes will get N500 billion for FGN Special Intervention Programme (including Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Government Economic Empowerment Programme, N-Power Job Creation Programme, Conditional Cash Transfers and Social Housing Fund).

Regional Interventions will get N65billion for reintegration of transformed ex-militants under the Presidential Amnesty Programme, N45 billion North East intervention fund and N20 billion for SDGs conditional grants and social safety nets.

He said the government will raise over N2trillion bonds to pay off contractors, adding that the bonds will have a 10-year maturity and the amortisation is expected to begin in 2018.

For education, the federal government has budgeted N5 billion for the provision of security infrastructure in 104 colleges (Perimeter fencing, Solar Street light, solar powered motorised borehole & CCTV).

Under transportation, N213.14 billion will be for various railway projects (Lagos-Kano, Calabar-Lagos, Kano- Kaduna, Ajaokuta-Itakpe-Warri , Kaduna-Idu)/counterpart funds and other rail projects; N 3.03 billion for the construction of terminal building at Enugu airport; N2.08 billion for airside rehabilitation of Abuja airport and N 2.47 billion for the construction of an inland river port and supply of cargo handling equipment at Baro , Niger State.

For health,N11.72 billion was earmarked for joint venture investments in tertiary institutions with Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA); N7.65 billion for procurement of vaccines and devices and N6.46 billion for Global Fund and GAVI counterpart funding .

Under Water Resources, N 18.86 billion will be for water supply schemes nationwide and N 14.3 billion for construction and rehabilitation of dams nationwide.  Agriculture and Rural Development will receive N6.5 billion for Rural Roads and Water Sanitation programme; N2.61 billion for Promotion and Development Of Wheat Value Chain and N4.13 billion for Guaranteed Minimum Price payment.
