Nairobi to host premier cloud event

The inaugural Cloud East Africa Summit is set to take place in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, on September 7, 2012.

The summit, hosted by Kinetic events,  provides a unique educational platform for IT professionals, chief information security officers and cloud computing experts from top global companies to discuss crucial industry issues facing IT security and cloud computing.

“As cloud computing moves beyond being the latest buzz word to an increasingly powerful IT tool, this summit comes at a critical time to enable IT professionals to share and exchange knowledge on some of the real issues faced on a daily basis. One of the most critical elements is security as the convergence of organisational information and communication technology moves beyond the closed network environment and onto the web. Data, or, more importantly, securing data is the lifeblood of any organisation, making this issue critically important to business,” says Shannon Mackrill, Joint Managing Director of Kinetic Events.

The summit will allow industry experts to engage, collaborate and develop new strategies and best practices for their business. The knowledge-event will prompt topical debate on highly relevant and important topics and trends, unlocking potential avenues for cost reduction, improved efficiency and innovation and address the effectiveness of moving to the cloud.

Globally, focus in the ICT industry has been on cloud computing, security and the continuously evolving technologies.

The summit will focus on how traditional enterprises can adopt cloud computing, with feature industry thought leaders including Kevin Kinyanjui, Information Systems Director and CIO of Kenya Airways, and Samuel Rutto, CIO of Globe Track International Kenya.

According to Shannon, the summit is aimed at business and technology leaders with the need to understand how cloud computing is fundamentally transforming the way in which we think about, acquire and use computing resources. It will enable senior decision-makers to determine what level of cloud computing engagement is appropriate for them and how cloud technology can be deployed alongside existing static deployments of hardware and software.
