MTN seeks compensation from SPTC

MTN Swaziland is reported to be seeking over USD100 million in compensation from state-owned operator Swaziland Post and Telecommunication Corporation (SPTC).
This follows arbitration over SPTC products that competed with MTN mobile offerings, in contravention of an agreement not to do so.
MTN challenged the matter when SPTC launched a rival mobile network under the brand name ONE, saying SPTC held a stake in MTN Swaziland and could not offer mobile services in competition with MTN. SPTC was ordered to cease offering mobile services.
MTN Swaziland is now considering seeking USD102.2 million in compensation for SPTC’s breach of their agreement and for losses suffered when customers subscribed to SPTC services.
