As Ghana’s MTN Foundation celebrates its 10 anniversary this year in a grand style across the country, the foundation is looking for more ingenious ways to impact positively on lives and communities through its flagship project MTN Heroes of Change. And so starting this year and in subsequent years, MTN Ghana Foundation promises to assist winners of the competition with the implementation of their various projects.
The MTN Heroes of Change which was launched in 2013, has identify, recognized and support the contributions of individual Ghanaian citizens and residents who are working to positively impact their communities in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
Since the commencement of MTN Heroes of Change, Dr. Abrokwa Yankyera, Madam Paulina Opei and Madam Genevieve Basigha have emerged winners for Seasons One, Two and Three respectively and not only have they demonstrated the ability to brighten their communities but they have also defied all odds to enhance the lives of people in their communities by utilizing their cash prizes to expand their respective developmental projects.
Speaking during the official of launch of Season IV of MTN Heroes of Change at the plush MTN House in Accra, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mrs. Amma Benneh Amponsah revealed that prize money of GHC 100,000 cedis will be awarded to the Ultimate MTN Heroes of Change, to be invested in the winning project, whereas category winners will also be awarded GHC 30,000 cedis each for investment in their project.
According to her the MTN Foundation has introduce a special category which seeks to award two personalities for their contribution to society through their work to this year’s Season IV of the MTN Heroes of Change.
“The personalities to be recognized in this special category will include journalists, radio and TV presenters who run campaigns that benefit their community. Others are musicians, actors and sports personalities. There are so many of such personalities who are undertaking social causes on their own as a result of the work they do. We have seen how some of them go the extra mile to engage people to support life changing projects and we believe they deserve special recognition,” she said.
