MACRA lashes out
GOVERNMENT
By BiztechAfrica - Aug. 8, 2012, 11:01 a.m.The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) this week defended itself against criticism doled out by Press Corporation Group Chief Executive Professor Mathews Chikaonda.
In recent statements, Chikaonda has criticised the regulator and has alleged that Macra has no authority to implement the so-called ‘spy machine’ planned to track telecoms traffic in Malawi.
Macra says the criticism is baseless and distorted. On criticism of a MK800 million dividend paid to government, Macra notes that the payment is statutory.
