Illegal SIM dealers arrested

By BiztechAfrica - Sept. 12, 2011, 10:24 a.m.The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reports that its Monitoring and Compliance Department has arrested suspects accused of fraudulently selling pre-registered new SIM cards to subscribers.
Nigeria is in the process of registering all SIM cards in a bid to crack down on crimes in which cellphones are used.
The NCC had issued warnings that the sale of pre-registered SIM cards was fraudulent and defeated the objectives of the exercise.
Reuben Muoka, NCC’s head of Media and Public Relations, said that the suspects had been arrested after they sold pre-registered SIM cards to undercover agents Maitama district, and Area 1, Abuja.
