Huawei unveils new premium devices

Huawei Technologies has introduced two new water and dust resistant devices in the Mate family, Mate 10 pro and Mate Porsche, into the South African market.
Product Marketing Director, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies South Africa, Akhran Mohammed, who announced this at the Bay Hotel, Cape Town, venue of the unveiling of the premium devices said the Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) is now ranked second in consumer satisfaction in South Africa.
He said the firm is just about three points away from the number one position in the country.
Speaking on the devices, he said it is the first to be built with artificial intelligence (AI) in mind, adding that it was also built in partnership with Microsoft because it has a very easy and seamless connection to desktop.
He said it is an improvement over the Mate 8 and Mate 9, stressing that it was built with Huawei Kirin 970, world's first mobile SoC chipset with dedicated neural network processor unit. He said this quality allows the phone to think like a human being.
He said the devices can function offline with its AI, adding that while performance has improved 25 times, its battery performance has improved 50 times.
Mohammed stressed the need for open AI ecosystem, stressing that it underlined its partnership with Microsoft and Standard Bank of South Africa.
Also speaking on the occasion, its GM, Likun Zhao, said the firm sold between 40 and 70 percent of its premium devices in the last quarter of this year in South Africa.
He said the biggest innovation of the devices is the AI, adding that the OEM will continue to support partners and customers in the mobile devices ecosystem.
