Girls get hands-on with ICTs

By BiztechAfrica - Aug. 25, 2012, 12:20 p.m.A girls’ ICT camp in Lagos has given girls the opportunity to get their hands on ICTs and visit a computer manufacturing plant.
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) in Lagos staged the camp for girls aged 11 to 17, to stimulate an early interest in ICTs among girls.
The participants attended technology workshops and were taken on a tour of the Omatek Computer manufacturing facility, where they had the opportunity to sit at the assembly line.
W.TEC Executive Director Oreoluwa Somolu said the training was designed to encourage girls and young women to prepare themselves for a career in ICT.
