ethio telecom trains students at 10 universities

ethio telecom, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Addis Ababa University as a focal office representing 10 public universities, has successfully concluded the first round of a University-Industry Linkage programme to improve local ICT skills.

In the first four-month pilot programme designed to stimulate innovation and grow marketable skills, ethio telecom trained 66 students in the Communications Engineering field of study.

In this first practical training programme, communications engineering university students were given practical knowledge of the telecom sector so that they will be able to cope up with modern technologies when they graduate from their respective universities.  In addition, ethio telecom paid monthly amount of pocket money (birr 1000) to cover expenses of the practicing students during the programme.

Ato Hailemariam Amare, Acting Chief Human Resources Officer of ethio telecom, said a concerted effort was needed by all stakeholders to meet Ethiopia’s ICT skills needs.

He noted that ethio telecom had made facilities available to train 150 students, but that due to a limited number of communication engineering students, only 66 students had received their practical in this first round training program.
