Egypt: no plan to censor social media

In a statement, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Mohamed Salem, stressed that communicating through social media such as Facebook and Twitter is a deeply rooted right to Egyptians.
"No one has the right to disable these networking channels," he added.
He gave the assurance that the government had no intention of disabling, shutting down or censoring any social networks.
Dr. Mohamed Salem has also noted that there has been a “remarkable increase in the number of internet users in Egypt”, with 10.2 million citizens now having online access.
