Egypt focuses on gaming

By BiztechAfrica - May 27, 2012, 4:39 p.m.Egypt’s Information Technology Institute (ITI) affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), has launched the first Gaming Industry Summit, “Egyptian Game Jam”, and a new gaming developers’ site.
ITI this month opened the first centre of excellence for the e-game industry in Egypt and the Middle East.
It also announced a national gaming developers’ competition, which aims to kickstart the development of an Arabic repository of gaming applications on mobile and desktop platforms, as well as to encourage the development of national capabilities and skills in the gaming industry.
The competition theme is “Egyptian History”.
The top winning ideas will be granted summer workshops in game development to aid them in implementing their games.
