“Digital economy is the future”
GOVERNMENT
By BiztechAfrica - July 25, 2012, 8:37 a.m.The Cote d’Ivoire Minister of Post and ICT, Bruno Kone, says the new USD90m national fibre optic backbone will help drive the country into the future.
He was speaking at the launch of construction of the first phase of the new broadband network – a 1,400km link from San Pedro.
The Minister said: "Investing in the digital economy, is investing in the future. If Ivory Coast wants to become an emerging country by 2020, it must bridge the digital divide and position itself as a hub in the area of information technology and communication (ICT).”
The national backbone is part of a wider ICT development programme launched in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year.
