Cameroon, MTN sign addendum to Concession Agreement of March 2015
MTN Cameroon, leader of the electronic communications sector in Cameroon, has announced the signing on 4 May 2018 of an Addendum to its Concession Agreement concluded with the Government of Cameroon on 11 March 2015.
This Addendum was signed at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Yaounde by Mrs. Minette LIBOM LI LIKENG, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Mr. Louis Paul MOTAZE, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Government on one hand, and Mr. Saim YAKSAN, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon for MTN on the other, in presence of the South African High Commissioner to Cameroon, Her Excellency KGOMOTSO MAGAU Ruth.
This Addendum completes the Concession assigned to MTN in March 2015, for a 15-year-term. Therefore, the exploitation of 4G is now accompanied by specification documents which stipulate amongst others, improvement in the coverage of sites of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon.
The specification documents equally require the coverage of all Regional and Divisional headquarters, university zones, significant economic activity areas, as well as localities with at least 10 000 inhabitants, before the end of the Concession.
These are some of the tasks which MTN had already begun and will pursue with greater intensity. As a matter of fact, the Addendum signed this day will ease access to the 700 and 800 MHz frequency bands, essential for indoor mobile internet usage. The Addendum will also considerably enhance the service quality provided to users in the ten regions of Cameroon.
MTN intends to seize this opportunity to further enhance the experience of its customers concerning internet in general and mobile internet in particular, and consequently grow its leadership on 4G, with the fastest network in Cameroon.
The signing of this Addendum to the Concession Agreement of 11 March 2015 is evidence of MTN’s commitment to Cameroon. “MTN has always contributed significantly towards the development of telecommunications in Cameroon. The Addendum we are signing today, gives us the opportunity to further participate in the digital transformation of the country”, declared Saim YAKSAN, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon.
A commitment that matches the vision of the State of Cameroon. MTN is “an indispensable partner in the development of the digital economy in Cameroon. The Cameroon Government relies on you to achieve the objectives inscribed in 2020 strategic plan for the development of digital economy.” said the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications during the ceremony.
